Sticks in the Forest

5 of 6

Here in the New England area November brings us into the 5th of our six seasons. The leaves have all fallen from their branches but, the snow has yet to begin. All across the hills are baren trees, giving the impression of standing sticks all around us. We collectively calls this time “stick season”.

In this time we wait We wait as the days grow shorter and we wait as the nights get cooler. We wait for that first snowflake to fall from the sky. We do day hikes and some biking on the weekends. We meet at the pubs and see the familiar faces of fellow locals. The tourists are gone and the towns have grown quiet. And we wait.

Soon the snow will fall. Soon the energy of winter will be upon us bringing with it the excitement for the snowbound activities.

But, for now, we rest and we wait.

Experience the Vibrancy of Acrylic

Over my years of printing images I have always kept an eye out for a truly unique means to bring images into the physical form. I looked at metal but found that I didn’t care for the increased detail the material created, almost too much definition for the softer feel I like in my work. Partnering with Saal Digital for my large prints, I was introduced to acrylic. I took a chance with a small sample and simply loved what I was seeing. Printing on acrylic creates an intensity and beauty to images like no other medium I’ve experience!

The way in which the acrylic gathers light brings so much depth and vibrancy to each image that they appear as if you could almost walk into the scene. Bringing more focus to light areas and letting the shadows drop off is the true magic of these pieces of art. Keeping true to the original colours is very important to me, something Saal Digital takes great care in doing, and this medium does a wonderful job in keeping to the original. A piece of art you simply must see to truly appreciate.

I have selected images currently available in acrylic, including Otherworldly see here. Please keep in mind that these images very much benefit from quality light to really shine. A sun-filled room should be good, specific art lighting is the best.

A moss covered big leaf maple stands in a pacific northwest forest among the vertical trunks of pines bathed in the blue-grey light from a breaking storm.

It’s like I can walk right into the forest!
