The Basics of Lighting Angles

Confused about when is the best time to take your pictures? Not sure why photographers are constantly raving about the “golden hour"?” Learning how different angles of light can transform your images is a vital skill for landscape photography.

In this video I set up a simple demonstration in my living room to illustrate how being aware of the sun’s location can radically change your results. I show you what I have set up and then review the images with feedback to help you see the light.

Lighting for me is something that I have been observing and manipulating for most of my life. Much of the time lighting has been something I “just get.” However, there are times when even I forget this fundamental element and struggle against flat, midday light. Regular observation and experimentation is how to solidify any skill.
