Holiday Pie Cocktail

The holiday season is a time of coming together to rejoice, enjoy each others company, and eat amazing food. Each year I look forward to my annual slice of pecan pie, loaded with delicious sweetness balanced by spices, topped with that loving scoop of vanilla ice cream. Inspired by these flavours I have developed a holiday cocktail filled with notes of chocolate, spices, nuts with a creamy texture that’s sure to amaze you and your guests! These go down easy so be careful, just like holiday pie, too much can leave you passed out on the couch!

1 oz Rye Whiskey

1/2 oz Disaronna

1/2 oz Spiced Pear Liquor

1/2 oz Orange Juice

1/2 oz Honey Simple Syrup

1 egg white

1 dash Chocolate Bitters

Fresh Nutmeg

Combine all the ingredients except the nutmeg in your shaker tins and dry shake for about 10-15 seconds. Add ice and shake again until the tins are cold on your hands. Double strain into your Nick & Nora glass (or equivalent) and grate the fresh nutmeg over the top for garnish.

For the rye whiskey, I’ve been enjoying Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye in this cocktail but, any quality rye will work. The spiced pear liquor I’m using has been St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur. A pulp-free orange juice would be best but any pulp would be caught by the strainer. The bitters I’m using is Fee Brother’s Aztec Chocolate Bitters and the honey simple is an easy 1 to 1 ratio of honey to clean water.

Enjoy this delicious cocktail after your meal as a delightful treat. It does take a little time to build and, with the egg white, needs just a little extra clean up but, the results I’m sure will be well worth it! You’re sure to impress your family and friends when they take their first sip!
